Mark Mueller of Personal Trainer Denver CO talks about the best sources for protein.

fitness-evolution-022Mark Mueller of Personal Trainer Denver CO talks about the best sources for protein.

Mark Mueller:
Animal sources of protein (milk, eggs, meat, poultry, fish, and seafood) contain all the essential amino acids in the amounts our bodies need. These sources are considered to be complete protein sources.

However, this info doesn’t do much good for you if you are a total vegetarian. Fortunately, you can still get all of the essential amino acids by combining foods that have some of the essential amino acids.

Here are some tasty combinations that will make for complete protein:
Beans and tortillas
Black beans and brown rice
Chili and corn bread
Pita bread with hummus

All soybean products, such as tofu and soymilk, are complete proteins. However, there are many concerns in relation to soy products. Concerns such as containing a large number of dangerous substances, potent enzyme-inhibitors, and the controversial issue of hormonal imbalance with consumption of soy.

Yogurt is also a source of complete protein and is the only animal byproduct that is generally recommended for frequent consumption as it contains bacteria needed for food digestion.

Wendy on personal training. I was a nurse for 9 years, got my degree in exercise physiology and have been a trainer for over 17 years and have taught group exercise since 1984.
So why would I need a personal trainer? Only a fool believes they can’t be taught anything more, and the wise believe that they can learn something from everyone they meet. I choose to be wise and appreciate the wisdom, knowledge and expierence that Mark has brought in the few sessions we have had together. Some might say it’s too expensive yet they’ll pay $150.00 a month on nails, $300.00 on hair and $50.00 or more on entertainment. You get one body and will never be as young as you are right now, so invest wisely. Treat your body as a temple and invest in good high quality maintanence.

  • Great article guys Quinoa is also a great source of complete protein and is especially useful for vegans and vegetarians.

Thanks for the input! Quinoa is not to be overlooked. However, the ratio of protein to carbs is low, so some supplementing will need to be done in most cases to increase protein and even it out.
