Personal Trainer Denver CO responds to @BarkingUnicorn about meats as a protein source.
Mark Mueller:
In my last post, I illustrated that meats are a source of complete protein. However, consuming the hulking log of bacon and sausage that my last post was associated with by BarkingUnicorn (great sense of humor) on Twitter is hardly something I would recommend to anyone who wants to naturally live beyond the age of 50 much less lose body fat.
Habitually making bacon a staple in a meal is asking for a heart attack. There is way too much saturated fat in proportion to the protein and other fats provided. Like most people, I like to eat bacon and sausage. I do so on rare occasion and it’s hardly a moderate amount compared to the average consumer.
It just isn’t reasonable for me to insist that people cut it completely from their diet, unless they are able to condition their psychological association with these foods appropriately as many vegetarians are able to do (God bless em).
Balance is a key to success. This goes back to my fourth fat loss guideline: Ensure that 25-35% of your energy/calorie intake comes from fat, with your fat intake split equally between saturates (e.g. animal fat), monounsaturates (e.g. olive oil), and polyunsaturates (e.g. flax oil, salmon oil).
